I worked as a full-time recording and touring bassist for about 20 years before "retiring" from the road to pursue making sustainable and unique instruments full time.
While I was playing, I used instruments I made for myself (often kind of silly ones!) I began to find this new method of creating art and contributing to music was as fulfilling as performing for me, but I got to sleep in my own bed every night!
Ten years in, my main goal is still to make innovative and sustainable instruments for musician from small footprint materials. I love pushing the envelope of what can be done creatively and sustainably, right here in Connecticut.
From electrified ancient Chinese instruments to hybrid guitars and basses, I also LOVE making other people's ideas a reality. I specialize in making what the big box stores and factories can't.
I also want to help others enter the craft of playing AND building, so I share some plans, parts, cables and much more here, my tool designs at SqWAYreTools.com and a whole lot of my knowledge at youtube.com/timsway.
